ACM assists several types of ministry in support of children in Africa. These include:
Sponsorships
ACM partners with several organizations that provide various levels of care for needy children. For example:
Children’s Homes (Full time care for orphans)
- Children rescued from the slums
- Provides safe and secure housing, food, clothing, education, healthcare, and Christ-centered spiritual development
- We encourage both training and implementing sustainable practices, such as on-site fisheries, farms, greenhouses, etc.
- ACM partners with Seeds Children’s Home, housing 250 children ages 3 to 18. Sponsorship is $125 per month, administered through Mighty Acorn Foundation (More about Mighty Acorn.)
CarePoints (Daytime care for children with a home)
- Caring for orphaned and vulnerable children
- Provides regular food, clean water, educational support, basic medical attention, and Christian discipleship with the goal of providing long-term, holistic, redemptive care.
- Survive-Thrive-Succeed model for children and their surrounding community
- Income-generating activities such as tailoring, carpentry, crafting aluminum pans, baking, soap, shoes, and farming
- Utilizes “Village Savings and Loan programs” to teach saving and budgeting in the community for long-term sustainability
- ACM partners with Children’s HopeChest Mt Elgone CarePoint, caring for 150 children. Sponsorship is $45 per month, administered through Children’s HopeChest. (More about Children’s HopeChest.)
Education
Grade School
Orphan children normally have little or no access to education.
- Historically, ACM’s founders were involved in expanding the Seeds Academy (age 3 to grade 8)
- This school educates 500 children from the Kipsongo Slum and/or orphanage.
- We’re glad that the school also incorporates a feeding center, providing tea and lunch six days a week.
High School
Private high schools bring Christian education to African children.
- ACM is working to complete a highly ranked private high school in the Kitale area.
Next steps:
- Capital projects for additional classrooms, administrative building, and staff quarters
Trade School
Need: Many children need to learn a trade to support themselves and their families.
History: ACM founders built, outfitted, and provided training to launch Carpenter Joe’s Woodshop at a Children’s Home. The woodshop teaches vocational skills, and has provided furnishings for the orphanage. On their own initiative, students raised funds and built furnishings as an outreach gift to other area schools!
Vision: ACM wants to partner to build a first class trade school where students can learn a trade. Trades taught may include auto shop, metalworking and welding, electrical, plumbing, culinary arts, tailoring, woodworking, and masonry.
Opportunity: We want to invite tradespeople in the West to support ministry in Africa. This is an opportunity to be on the ground floor of creating this important ministry.
Next Steps:
- ACM is partnering with Engineering Ministries International (EMI) to design a trade school campus.
- We are working towards a trip later this year to travel to Kenya and work with local architects, builders and ministry leaders to come up with the best design for a trade school.
How you can help:
- Donate towards this school
- Help design shop and classroom space, and curriculum for a particular trade
- Join us on a trades mission trip to Kenya
Spiritual Growth
Local Church
Christ Life Centre Church is pastored by Richard Makani, head of a key ACM partner ministry. It is located in the center of Kitale.
Bible Training Center
Local pastors desperately need Bible training. ACM partners to help with this need. For example:
- Mt Elgone Bible Training Centre offers Bible training for area pastors
- Pastors travel 5 to 20 miles one way for training
- A dorm is being built onsite for increased training
